The Tween Bod

The herbal approach to the Tween Bod honors this important, dynamic and impressionable phase of human development. Hormones rage, ‘self’ forms, and giant leaps in growth seem to happen overnight.

Luckily, the herbal approach to the Tween Bod is gentle, non toxic, nourishing and empowering.

Issues of the Tween Bod:

Skin:

Sebum production on both the skin and scalp gets fired up, and bacteria proliferates. This causes oily scalp, acne, and brand new body odor!

We love our Pimple Mud (spot treatment and weekly mask), Earth Polish (as our cleanser), Aloe Lotion (soothing moisturizers) and Bite & Burn Spray (pocket size toner) to rein in acne producing bacteria and sooth and balance that angsty Tween skin. Our Deodorant Creams also come in ½ oz sizes, perfect for the backpack and neutralizes bod odor on contact.

Hair:

Oily scalp and dandruff can come on strong.

Lavender & Cocoa Dry Shampoo absorbs that extra oil so your kiddo can rock an excellent hair day between washes.

Self:

Tweens are beginning their journey of locating their self expression by responding to peer pressure, it’s a weird universe of supercharged influence and inspiration that can have both negative and positive effects. This is an important time to strengthen their inner compasses.

Out of all of our non toxic adornment, we especially love our highlighter, Beam because it is infused with the Spirit Medicine of Madrone. Madrone helps us stay centered in ourselves, our inner knowing no matter how strong the influential winds are blowing around us.

Internal:

Hormonal cascades that fuel sexual development have all sorts of fun side effects. Supporting your Tween’s liver is key in helping the bod flush and balance hormones. Tween desire for packaged ‘food’ seems inevitable, and instead of getting trippy about ‘good’ or ‘bad’ foods which can backfire in painful ways, making nourishing food a yummy and consistent choice is the middle road.

Smoothie recipe below:

Tween Spirit Smoothie

1-2 frozen bananas

1-2 tablespoons peanut or nut butter

A handful of spinach

1 teaspoon maca powder

1 teaspoon milk thistle seed powder

1- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

A few splashes of milk of choice

Blend until smooth!

Garnish with coconut flakes, cacao nib or cinnamon.

We believe that by providing head to toe Self Care potions that are full of color, vibrancy and magic empowers the tweens and teens in our lives to leapfrog over some of the most insidious toxic ingredients and messages embedded within ‘body care’.

Four recipes we'll be throwing down this season. We see the holidaze as a time to revel in the ginger and spice, to balance all the things that aren’t so nice. The flavors of the winter seasons are warming, stimulating, reminders of our sensual capacity.
