Fat Crush: Janine Benyus

Written by Marketing FM August 27, 2024

Janine is a biologist, author, innovation consultant, self proclaimed “nature nerd”. We can relate. She coined the term ‘Biomimicry’, a concept that continues to inspire us and blow our minds, which is why we unabashedly present Janine as our major Fat Crush.

Biomimicry is a practice that learns from and mimics the strategies found in nature to solve human design challenges—and find hope.

Janine has introduced millions to the ideas and practice of biomimicry through two TED talks, hundreds of conference keynotes, and a dozen documentaries.

In Biomimicry, she explores an emerging discipline that emulates nature’s designs and processes to create a healthier, more sustainable human relationship with our planet. Since the book’s release, Janine has evolved the practice of biomimicry, speaking around the world about what we can learn from the genius that surrounds us.

Why Biomimicry?

Biomimicry is about valuing nature for what we can learn, not what we can extract, harvest, or domesticate. In the process, we learn about ourselves, our purpose, and our connection to each other and our home on earth.

An educator at heart, Janine believes that the more people learn from nature’s mentors, the more they’ll want to protect them. This is why she writes, speaks, and revels in describing the wild teachers in our midst.

Thank you, Janine, for stoking the fires of the “nature nerd” and showing us the ways we can actually learn from and apply awe.
