Plant Focus: Witch Hazel

Meet Nature's Natural Astringent

Witch Hazel Hamamelis virginiana embodies the healing aspect of contraction. The pulse of life is expansion and contraction. It can be hard in our ‘more is more’ and ‘bigger is better’ culture to see the benefit of reeling it in, getting smaller.

While contraction and tightening are often pathologized, the astringents in the plant world see it differently: sometimes you need to pull it all in to reconnect. Witch hazel is an excellent astringent, gently tightening tissue and creating pathways for repair.

Witch Hazel-infused potions:

Bite and Burn Spray

Witch Hazel contains tannins which help the skin to tighten and get its repairing act together. Our house-made Yarrow hydrosol soothes and aids in cell regeneration. Lavender and Tea Tree essential oil calm skin and support repair.

Pimple Mud

Bentonite clay draws out impurities deep in pores while stimulating skin healing circulation. Witch Hazel extract clarifies and astringes alongside microbe balancing Tea Tree, and Goldenseal. Get herbal on those pimples.

“A reclamation of responsibility to our spectrum of potential is imperative, as fear cannot fester in the light of gross self-acceptance. The recessed corridors of your conscience, the places you refuse to visit for what you might see– it’s here we need to look, to peel our hands away and kick off the covers.”
