Fat Crush: Amy Yeung

Our latest Fat Crush, Amy Yeung, gives us all the heart eyes. After a 30 year career of designing big-box fast fashion destined for landfills, Amy arrived at a place of creating slow fashion with consciousness. She is the founder of the 4kinship, a fashion label focused on one-of-a-kind repurposed and upcycled vintage wearable art. In her transition professionally, she reconnected to her roots and relocated to New Mexico, taking with her a wealth of connections as well as fundraising, organizational, and communication skills that were largely missing from the reservation.

Amy’s drive to help others is rooted in her indigenous history, and honored in efforts to protect native sacred lands. Through Orenda Tribe, she will be launching a non-profit organization, titled the K’é Foundation, that will be dedicated to Indigenous youth. One of her first projects, in collaboration with Wonders around the World and Donate for Skate, is to roll out a Skate Park on the Navajo reservation called the Native Skate Garden Project.

The native skate park and edible ancestral garden will be free and safe space for local youth, and serve as a gathering space that reconnects Navajo people with the tradition of growing food. The Native Skate Garden Project breaks ground in October 2020. Follow the 4kinship to watch the journey unfold.
