Fat Crush: Rosemary Gladstar

Written by Marketing FM April 04, 2024

Get ready for a lot of plant metaphors.

Rosemary Gladstar is the rootstock of American herbalism. Legendary herbalist, author, teacher, and Creatrix. She was the founder / co-founder of California School of Herbal Studies, Mountain Rose Herbs, Traditional Medicinals as well as United Plant Savers, the International Herbal Symposium and the Women’s Herbal Symposium. She also co-founded Sage Mountain Herbal Retreat Center and Botanical Sanctuary.

Each of Rosemary’s projects are shoots, connected, yet distinct from the mother tree and together they create an ecosystem of American Herbalism as we know it. Rosemary’s work seeded a niche, and grew a thriving and unique herbal culture- a scion of European herbalism with much more potential for cross pollination.

Oh, but the plant metaphors feel so right! ‘Go back to the plants.’ was the potent advice Rosemary gave to our founder in her recent conversation with Rosemary. Afterall, the plants are why Fat and the Moon exists. The blend of magic and science that Rosemary embodies reminds us that herbalism is so much more than a plant instead of a pill. Herbalism is a form, a dance of connection, and communication with the most powerful living force on our planet: the plants.

Through synergistic chemistry, and through observation, plants have so much to teach us about how to live, how to adapt and how to thrive, in harmony on our earth. To us, Rosemary is a node of that botanical wisdom, a force of nature herself. That is why she is our perpetual Fat Crush.

We love you Rosemary, thank you for all you have created.
